Today I am taking a little break from blogging about all things girly, glittery and event related to bring you a little project that I have been working on in my spare time!
As I don't post a lot of personal information on the blog, some of you may not know that besides my love for horses, I have always been passionate about sports. Yes, I am a jock at heart. I would take athletic shorts and tank tops over frilly dresses any day! And before college my whole life revolved around sports. There was never a season there wasn't a soccer ball at my feet or a basketball in my hands. But I knew that collegiate sports weren't really my thing, especially since I had always dreamed of attending a large University. My love of horses continued throughout college though. I was able to join the UofL Equestrian Team. It was a great way to get involved, meet new friends and have something other than school to occupy my time. And besides, it enabled me to escape the city a couple times a week for practice and enjoy the fresh outdoor air and that infamous Kentucky bluegrass!
Finally, after becoming real adults, graduating college, getting engaged and settling into our new place my husband (Fiancé at the time) and I had become super complacent and overall unhappy with our health and fitness. Sports were missing in both of our lives and we had to find a way to fix it. And that is where Crossfit comes in.
My family had started Crossfit that fall and had been encouraging us to go. Me being me, decided I should investigate it first.
Just what was this Crossfit that everyone spoke of? So after watching some YouTube videos and seriously doubting myself and my physical abilities, Tony and I timidly went to observe a class and meet the owners of Crossfit Heights. From the minute we walked in everyone was warm and welcoming. And let's face it, seeing the physique of everyone working out in the box was a great seller. I knew from that moment on this was what we needed to do. This could be our "sport". We came back the next week and signed up for our introductory classes and we have been hooked ever since.
It has been about a year and a half since we joined Crossfit Heightsand I truly feel like we have found a second family. Our Crossfit family are people who get excited about your accomplishments, both personal and physical. They are there to work with you, push you to your limit and make sure you get that extra rep in or reach another PR. For me, there truly could not be a better environment or group of people to workout with every week and it has truly been a life changing decision for both of us.
Now to the artistic stuff.
....So, earlier in the year Mark, the gym manager, asked me if I would be interested in designing some new gear, including competition shirts and tanks. I was super excited and couldn't wait to get started. I love being able to use my abilities to help out those that mean the most to me. After discussing the concepts with Mark I was off to the drawing board. Including the competition gear, I have created five t-shirt designs so far, with hopes of more to come!
I took the liberty of stealing some of photos from their Facebook Page to show you guys the gear in action. It truly means a lot to see my work everyday at the gym. And I love being able to contribute to such a great business and family.
