Ivory House Christmas Card

Creative Ways to Display Your Holiday Cards

Ivory House Creative December 3, 2021

As we head into December, we will all be getting lots of holiday cards in our mailboxes. What do you do with all of these beautiful cards? Some people collect them in a pretty container, some put them on their fridge and others just leave them in a pile on the counter (we’ve all been there). But, I love to display these holiday cards in unique ways that adds to my holiday home decor. Here are a few ideas that you could try this month.

If you are into DIY projects, the above display idea requires a couple pieces of wood and some chicken wire…along with a little work too. You can create this frame and adorn it with a cute boxwood wreath and hang it over your mantle or fireplace. Then, use small clips to attach all of your holiday cards to the chicken wire. Directions for this DIY project can be found HERE.

Ok, I LOVE ribbon and always have some left over on spools in my wrapping bin. Here is a very simple, but fun idea.

Just hang your ribbon on any door and attach your holiday cards with washi tape, pins or clothespins. So simple and decorative too! You can get “extra” and add some bows to the bow, buttons in between cards or even do multiple layers and widths of ribbon.

I’m sure Michael’s or Hobby Lobby is having a great sale today (or any day this month) on ribbon too, so don’t let you lack of having it on hand hold you back from having this cute addition to your decor.

This next idea may be my favorite, if you have a vintage ladder (or even a bookcase) in your house. You can take a piece of twine and tie it across the ladder diagonally to make a zig-zag pattern. Then, clip cards to the twine using a small clothespin, binder clip or paperclip.

Looking for something even easier — just string twine from two corners of your window and hang cards from there! Simple!

Here is another example of the twine garland idea, but using a chair rail or wainscoting to attach the twine to. You can dress up this idea by adding little red velvet bows or even some small mini wreaths at the top of each drape.

Your holiday cards can be attached with mini clothespins or little gold binder clips.

Our last idea is pretty and smells good too! When you are out buying your Christmas tree this weekend, buy some pine garland. Typically tree farms have them or, you can take the extra pine boughs they cut off your own tree and make your own garland using a little floral wire to attach the pine pieces together.

Hang and attach your garland over your hearth, doorway, or a pretty piece of furniture. Then, as you receive your holiday cards, you can just simply attach cards to the garland with clips or pins.

Oh, and you can also do this same idea using artificial garland — oooh…and maybe add some little white twinkle lights before hanging! That would be so gorgeous!

Hope you create one of these lovely holiday card displays in your house this year. You can enjoy the smiling faces, lovely patterns, festive colors for the whole month! Happy Holidays!
